We recently reviewed the Eve Motionblind system and loved it. If you’ve been eyeing Eve Motionblinds but your roller blinds were on the slimmer side, good news: Eve just fixed that. Eve has announced a new motor option for its Eve Motionblinds Upgrade Kit, designed specifically for smaller roller blind tubes.

With the included adapters, the new motor fits blinds with an outer tube diameter of just 25–30 mm and a minimum width of 57 cm. In other words, a lot more existing blinds are now compatible, especially the kind you’ll find in standard off-the-shelf setups.

This turns the Upgrade Kit into a much more mainstream option and makes it easier (and cheaper) to motorise blinds you already own, instead of replacing them entirely.

Eve Motionblinds Retrofit done right

The Eve Motionblinds Upgrade Kit is all about upgrading, not replacing. There’s no wiring, no hub-specific lock-in, and no need to be particularly handy. You get mounting brackets, covers, and a set of adapters that work with roller blinds from many popular brands. Once installed, setup is as simple as scanning a Matter QR code and adding the motor to your smart home.

Because the kit supports Matter over Thread, it plays nicely with Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and more now and in the future.

Smart Blinds without obvious Motors

Once installed, Eve Motionblinds behave exactly how you’d expect from a modern smart home device:

Automations based on time, sunrise/sunset, or presence
Manual control via the Eve app, your platform’s native app, or buttons on the device
Adjustable upper, lower, and favourite positions
Optional Adaptive Shading in the Eve app, which adjusts blinds based on the sun’s position to reduce heat buildup and improve energy efficiency

Power comes from an internal battery that charges over USB-C and lasts up to a year with typical use. No hardwiring required.

Matter + Thread, Privacy: no cloud required

Like all Eve devices, Motionblinds work entirely locally. There’s no Eve cloud, no account, no subscription, and no tracking. Matter handles interoperability, while Thread provides a resilient mesh network that gets stronger as you add more devices especially mains-powered ones like smart plugs.

This combination keeps things fast, reliable, and private, which is still surprisingly rare in the smart home world.
